Some time ago, we posted a poll for our members on how the IDF should spend their budget surplus. We now have the results of that poll.
We published our poll a month ago, to the day. In that month, a little less than 100 votes were cast by (paying) members. On a (paying) member total of around 1800, this is quite disappointing to say the least.
Some riders have spoken out against the IDF in the past season and it's quite remarkable to see that the ones speaking out the loudest, are not the ones who take part in for example a poll, where they can actually make a difference.
That being said, here are the results of the poll.
34% - Spend money on a marketing/communication person
17% - Buy a second timing system to avoid shipping costs and damage due to travel
9% - Reduce event sanctioning fee
5% -Save it for the future
Another 34% couldn't be categorised in the provided options. These suggestions were sometimes good, sometimes unachievable. As a result, we will spend the 2016 IDF surplus in marketing and communication, for the 2017 season.
Some suggestions were interesting, but the problem the IDF faces, which is related to many things, is lack of man power. IDF representatives already have a full plate of activities during a race, so we need help to achieve more things because volunteers only have a certain amount of free time to spend.
And with the turn of the year coming up, a new board election is also coming up. Four key board members (Koma, Colin, Lee and Robbo) are stepping down, leaving the IDF under new management for the next 2 seasons.
This is your chance to make a difference if you truly love your sport and want to help the scene stay alive and grow.
You can still apply to be a board member until December 19. You can fill out the form here.
