Qualification day ended with five North Americans on the top of the table (4 US, 1 CA), and eight out of the top 15 spots. But the big news was 16-year-old Nick Broms (US) smashing the track record against a full house of the top downhill athletes in the world. An astonishing time of 2:18.19 beat Thiago Lessa's record by more than a second, and put him in pole position for both Opens and Juniors. Close behind was last weeke's WRG winner, Dane Hanna (CA), who also broke last year’s record with a 2:18.92 time.

In Luge we saw reigning World Champion Kolby Parks (CA) take pole position, followed by three-time World Champ Abdil Mahdzan (MY) separated by just 0.15 seconds.

Last year’s Opens finalist, Emily Pross (US) took pole in the women’s category and 18th spot in Opens. In Masters, Canadian OG Kyle Martin completed today's North American domination of Verdicchio.

What of the Europeans? 2017 Verdicchio winner, Tristan Cardillo (CH) was the best, slotting in at sixth best qualifier, while Spain's Diego Poncelot followed close behind in seventh.

Overall it was a great second day of racing in the beautiful mountains of Cupramontana, with 11 runs getting the best out of all 118 riders at the track. We love to see races that grow like this year-to year, and the work of local Italian team is simply amazing - they keep pushing further so riders can have a great time racing at this hill.
