Max Capps Leads Newton's Practice Day - International Downhill Federation

Max Capps (US) doesn’t travel to many IDF races, but today he showed he has the goods to compete at the highest level, posting the fastest practice time of the day. This year’s field at Newton’s is one of the deepest in years, and it’s a wide open race, with no clear favorite.

Harry Clarke (AU) waited until his 17th run of the day to lay down the second fastest run of the day, while Andy Atchison (US) started off the day at the top of the leaderboard before dropping to third by the end of the day.

Emily Pross (US) decided not to wear a transponder today, giving no hints to the competition. But she had one of the biggest crashes of the day - a full send into the bales at Forest Elbow.

Elissa Mah (NZ) recorded the fastest women’s time, while Abdil Mahdzan (MY) also waited until his last run to skip to the top of the Luge rankings. In Juniors, Lewis Saxon (AU) edged out Riley Young (AU), while in Masters, Derek Blanquer Gelez (ES) looks set to dominate.

But the real shit starts tomorrow; four timed qualifying runs that determine seeding for Sunday’s head-to-head racing. In between there’ll be a repechage, where the slowest riders from tomorrow’s qualifying will battle for the last few places in the finals bracket.

Keep an eye on the Newton’s Results page to follow the qualifying times and all the race brackets.
