You asked for it and we're delivering. From today the IDF will publish downhill rankings for each continent; North America, South America, Europe and Asia. See http://rankings.internationaldownhillfederation.org.
The top pros travel the world; now everybody else has a new way to compete.
How does it work ?
Each continent's rankings include only:
- races held on that continent
- riders from that continent
- each rider's best 5 results on that continent.
What happens if I'm from one continent, but now live on another continent ?
By default you'll belong to the continent associated with the country you marked as your "Nationality" on the IDF Membership form. If you've changed nationality, or have dual-nationality, or have some other situation, please let us know and we'll try and accommodate you.
Why do I have one more/less ranking point than in the old rankings?
The new calculation system rounds numbers slightly differently, so some people's total points may be out by one compared to the old system. If they're out by more than one, please let us know so we can investigate.
Why is this being released midway through the season ?
We could wait until the beginning of 2016, but if we release it now we can get feedback and iron out the kinks by the time 2016 rolls around.
Why didn't we have this earlier ?
Five race categories and four continents means there are 20 sets of rankings to maintain. And with almost 2,000 members to keep track of, it's a big job that required some clever database engineering that couldn't easily be summoned out of thin air. Many thanks are due to Garry Reimer who developed the database and associated app.
