The IDF is proud to announce the 2019 racing season schedule. We always aim to release the schedule before the end of the year in order to give everybody the chance to get organised.
2019 will feature 17 races across the world: 1 World Championship, 5 World Cups and 11 World Qualifier Series. Kicking off again with the Asia-Pacific continent in April, the season will follow with North America and Europe. South America will close the season in September.
Next year in addition to the continental and World Cup title, the IDF World Championship will be established, and the award of World Champion will take place in conjunction with the 2019 World Roller Games organized in partnership with the World Skate. The IDF has been collaborating as a technical partner to formalize Street Luge and Downhill Skateboarding Racing. For the first time ever, World Skate (the federation born between the merge of FIRS and ISF officially in charge of Street and Park Skateboarding at the Olympics in Tokyo 2020), will officially include Downhill Skateboard and Street Luge making the World Roller Games a unique time to bring together all the world’s top athletes in a competition that will award the title of World Champion.
All the procedures for qualification and participation will be announced in the coming weeks on www.internationaldownhillfederation.org and on the official website of the World Roller Games www.wrg2019.com
In regards to the ranking point system, we made some changes based on the experience we had this year while listening to the needs of the athletes.
For the Continental Championship and the World Cup Tour we’re going to introduce the following changes for next year:
CONTINENTAL RANKING
- Best 3 races will be counted
A new rule that we’ll introduce next year is that equal points will be assigned to every event, regardless of WC / WQS status, for the continental rankings. This will strongly encourage participation across every the Continental Tour, as well as serve as an “equalizer” for people who don’t live close to (or are unable to attend) the World Cup in their continent.
WORLD RANKING
- Open Skateboard - Best 6 races (max 3 WC)
- Women Skateboard - Best 5 races (max 2 WC)
- Juniors Skateboard - Best 5 races (max 2 WC)
- Masters Skateboard - Best 5 races (max 2 WC)
- Street Luge - Best 5 races (max 2 WC)
Only one WC per continent will be counted to each individual’s overall world ranking. For example, there are two WC events in Europe but if you attend both only the one where you received a better finish will count towards your World Rankings. We decided to make this change in order to make the season equal for all the riders that aim for the World Cup title. Also, this will improve the affordability of the world tour and encourage inter-continental travel.
All the above changes will be updated on the Rule Book v1.5 aside from other rules changes that will be announced before the beginning of the season.
