Yesterday's slippery beast was dry today, and four rounds of tight race-to-qualify revealed the full force of the Taipan track. The final chicane, so memorable from the video of Basi's crash there last year, claimed a number of victims as riders had to adjust to the massively different track conditions today.
Yesterday's wet runners showed they could also do it in the dry, and a trio of Americans added themselves to the list of people to watch by remaining undefeated through today's racing; Andy Atchison, super-grom Nick Broms, and Chase Hiller.
Then add Zak Mills-Goodwin (AU) to the mix. Normally more of a freerider than an out-and-out racer, Zak has discovered his racing form in the last week, after finishing fifth in a strong Newton's field. Today he won every heat except his last, placing second to Jack Brown (AU) from far-north Townsville, another rider who looms as a danger in the draw.
Things get serious tomorrow as the finals racing begins. Stay tuned to the live results, and watch out for the live feed on Facebook.
